Tables of Content Dinner
We are happy to announce that the 28th Annual Tables of Content Dinner will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at the King & Prince Resort's Delegal Dining Room on St. Simons Island.
Our guest speaker will be New York Times best-selling author Charles Martin. His nine novels include Unwritten, Thunder and Rain, The Mountain Between Us, Where the River Ends, Wrapped in Rain, Chasing Fireflies, Maggie, When Crickets Cry, and The Dead Don't Dance. All of these books are available at both the Brunswick and St. Simons Libraries and can also be purchased at GJ Ford Bookstore on St. Simons Island. Charles currently lives in Jacksonville, Florida with his wife and family.
More information including where to purchase tickets will be available in January 2015. Please mark your calendar in the meantime for this terrific fund-raising event. Proceeds will be used to purchase books and materials and support programs at the library.
Friends Annual Book Sale
Our Book Sale will be held on February 25-28, 2015 in the Brunswick-Glynn County Library Auditorium. Specific times are pending. You will be able to purchase books, CDs, DVDs, and more for as little as $1-$2. Proceeds will be used to purchase new materials (i.e. books, videos, music, etc.) for the Brunswick-Glynn County Library. We are grateful for everyone who purchases items at the sale and are especially grateful for all of our wonderful volunteers who work diligently throughout the year to make our book sale a success.
If you have books, videos, DVDs, CDs, and records in good condition, the Friends can use them for future book sales. (No magazines, condensed books, games, or puzzles please.) Bring your donations to the Brunswick Library during regular library hours: Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, 9:30 am to 5:00 pm; and Tuesday and Thursday, 9:30 am to 8:00 pm.
Volunteers are welcome before, during and after all book sales and throughout the year. If you have some time to give, please call Martha Martin (912) 638-2588 or email email@example.com.
For additional info call the Brunswick-Glynn County Library at (912) 267-1212.
Reading is FUNdamental (RIF) Program
On February 13-14, 2014, students at Goodyear and Burroughs-Mollette Elementary Schools were treated to a Valentine's story, read by the Reading Wizard, Nancy Butler, then they selected a book of their own, purchased with Friends of the Library funds. Our terrific Friends volunteers helped to show that Reading Is not only FUNdamental, but also Fun! View Goodyear Elementary and Burroughs-Mollette photos.
The Reading is Fundamental volunteers are looking forward to the students' field trip to the Library later in the Spring. They will get a tour and learn about the Summer Reading Program, in addition to a program and book selection.
The RIF books purchases are no longer done through federal funding, as this long lasting literacy program was cancelled in December 2011 by Congress. The Friends hope to continue the program with alternate funding. Please consider helping with this worthwhile effort to teach our children that reading is not only Fundamental, but also FUN! Please contact Betsy Stafford, RIF Chair, at 912-466-8806 with any ideas for programs or for funding.
