Tables of Content Dinner

The Tables of Content event held at the King and Prince Delegal Dinning Room on March 12, 2013 was a huge success. Ticket sales, the silent auction and raffle netted the Friends nearly $7000. Guest author, Jeffrey Small, Jr. spoke to a sold out audience of 119 about his first book, The Breath of God, and his second book, The Jericho Deception to be released in May. Using visual images he took the audience to India and the Taj Mahal and to a monastery in Butan. Jeffrey explained that he took all these pictures in his travels to research his book, The Breathe of God. A check for $15,000 was presented by Friends President, Margie Young, to Lori Lasson, Brunswick Library Director, for new books and audio visual materials. View event photos

We hope you will plan to join us for our 27th Tables of Content Dinner on April 1, 2014 when our guest speaker will be best-selling author Sue Grafton.

Reading is Fundamental (RIF) Program

March was RIF month for Goodyear and Burroughs-Molette Elementary Schools. The Friend’s sponsored the last of three book distributions this year with a trip to the library. These third graders were treated to a tour of the library by Karen Larrick who also gave them information about the Summer Reading Program. In addition the students enjoyed a story, read by the Reading Gypsy, Nancy Butler, BUT the main purpose was the opportunity to choose two books to take home. Volunteers, Betty McKenzie, Bernice Singleton, Loraine Koenn, Cathy Co, Pam Paige, Sandy Storino, and FOL president, Margie Young all helped to show that Reading Is not only Fundamental, but also Fun! View March RIF program photos

The RIF books were the final purchases made possible by federal funding, as this long literacy program was cancelled in December 2011 by Congress. The Friends hope to continue the program with alternate funding.

Please consider helping with this worthwhile effort to teach our children that reading is not only Fundamental, but also FUN! Please contact Betsy Stafford, RIF Chair, at 912-466-8806 with any ideas for programs or for funding.
