Preconstruction Book Sale Results - July 11 - 14, 2018
The Friends Preconstruction Book Sale raised $7,161.54! The proceeds will be provided to the library for the purchase of new materials and support of library programs. Many thanks to everyone who purchased books and other items, our generous donors of gently used books and materials, and especially our tireless Friends volunteers who make our book sales possible. We cannot do it without all of you. With the library renovations underway through Spring of 2019, we will not likely have another book sale until Spring of 2020. Check back for more details.
Book sales feature hardbacks and paperbacks, titles for adults and children, fiction and nonfiction, plus a |
large selection of music CDs and vinyl records, DVDs, audiobooks, and hundreds of large print books. Prices range from $0.50 - $2.
Tables of Content Dinner - PostponedWith much trepidation, the Friends board decided to break tradition and postpone our 30th TOC Dinner until next year. Even though we all look forward to this event, our profit barely exceeds the expenses. The authors no longer are willing to come without a fee. Until now, we provided their hotel (often donated) and meals and sometimes, a treat of a spa visit (also donated) or another activity. Gone are the days of speakers coming just to support libraries. In addition, it has become increasingly difficult to secure premium items for our silent auction. How can you help? We need a designated committee with a chairperson (or a co-chair) to provide new ideas and new energy. This would come with a promise of total support from us all. Think about it! |
Reading is FUNdamental (RIF) ProgramReading Is Fundamental is about to wrap up another great year. We have served 3 schools this year, Goodyear, Altama, and Burroughs-Mollette Elementary, and we are very pleased with the children’s reception. We have been to each school twice and each third grader has received 3 books. We have one more distribution scheduled in May and all the 3rd grade classes will come to the library for a tour and to receive another book. This program would not be possible without support from the Friends of the Library and a grant from Scholastic/RIF. We depend on wonderful volunteers to help set up, hand out, and inspire the love of reading. If you are interested in helping please give RIF Committee Chair Sally Easley a call at 513-404-1905. Volunteering is very easy and it's fun to see the kids' faces light up when they get to pick a book for themselves to keep! |
